Pierre Bouissou — Founder of Alma da Comporta

The Founder

Pierre Bouissou

Before Portugal, Pierre Bouissou had never imagined that a land could speak to him so directly. It was a quiet, almost instinctive desire — to build a house by the water — that first brought him to Comporta.

The moment he arrived, something shifted. Goosebumps. An immediate, overwhelming coup de cœur. The vast skies, the rice fields shimmering in the Atlantic wind, the deserted white-sand beaches stretching endlessly to the horizon — everything felt like a second home he had never known he had been searching for.

That encounter with the land became the founding act of everything that followed. Not a brand born from a business plan, but from a feeling — raw, sincere, and deeply personal.

This is how Alma da Comporta began.

The Fragrances

Alma, the fragrance line, is the incarnation of devotion to this lost paradise and its scents. Created with ingredients inspired of Comporta and No Gender.

The fragrances are an olfactory journey, an ode to Comporta, exalting the sleepless nights in the sand, the refreshing car rides with fully opened windows at sunset, the forest, the rice fields and the sea. A complex aroma that is not only vegetal but also contains a bit of the ocean, a bit of the earth.

It is the top citric notes that are shared by all fragrances and dominate our first impression. Follow the heart notes, aromatics for the Eau de Parfum, and spicy for the Eau Fraiche. The end notes leave a lasting scent of woody and oceanic fragrance.

Combining his expertise of several decades and his friendship with one of the most famous masters of worldwide perfumery, Pierre Bouissou has realised his dream of developing perfumes from Comporta to Comporta.

François Demachy — Master Perfumer

The Perfumer

François Demachy

It was through a shared belief in emotion and authenticity that Pierre Bouissou came to meet François Demachy — one of the most celebrated noses in the world, and the master perfumer behind some of Dior's most iconic fragrances, including the legendary J'adore.

Their shared language was sensory. A reverence for nature, a pursuit of truth — and the deep conviction that a fragrance must, above all, make you feel something before you understand it.

François Demachy's olfactory path follows its own quiet logic: citrus first — sharp, luminous, alive — then the aromatic heart, warmer, wilder, carrying the scrub and the salt air of the Alentejo coast. And finally the woods: cedar, vetiver, sandalwood. Deep, skin-close, sensual. A fragrance that stays.

Together, they set out to capture the very essence of Comporta — its luminous light, its salt-laced air, its sun-warmed earth, and the rare feeling of absolute freedom that defines this place like no other.
